The Duchess of Cornwall has thanked the people of west Wiltshire for giving her such a warm welcome on her visit to the West Wilts Show.

A letter from her assistant private secretary Sophie Densham at Clarence House, said the Duchess, who opened the Show in Trowbridge Park in July, wished to thank the organisers for making her visit so enjoyable.

The letter said: “The Duchess thought the show was an excellent showcase for the five towns of Bradford on Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury and was impressed by the range of businesses, charities and other activities taking part – not to mention some of the creative displays.

“Her Royal Highness was delighted to open the Show on its 20th anniversary and was touched by the warm welcome she received from the people of west Wiltshire.

“The Duchess is well aware of how much hard work goes into making an event of this nature so successful and wishes me to pass on her sincere thanks to all involved.”

The letter to Michael Williams, chief executive of the Wessex Association of Chambers of Commerce and chairman of the Show committee, said: ”In particular, Her Royal Highness sends warmest congratulations to you and Trevor (Trowbridge Town Cryer Trevor Heeks) for all your hard work in making the Show into such a success and for taking so much time to help make her visit so memorable.”
